12 canoes

News today of a new project from people at Ramingining and Rolf de Heer: a website called Twelve Canoes featuring 12 short films which 'cover topics such as the story of creation, first contact with white man, the seasons and plants and animals'. There are also music and image galleries on the site.

The production values are phenomenally high, and there are some other bonusses: the time bar for the videos is represented in a circle (!) and you can choose to listen to the films in either English or Yolngu. Many mak!

Thanks for pointing this out. What a great site!- I especially liked "Nowadays" debunking all that "colourful natives" stuff.

The site was also featured on ABC news that night. It's an awesome looking site. Great that they could use this medium to do what the Ramingining people originally wanted to do in the film - there was apparently just too much to fit into a feature film at the time.
